In every space, there is always someone missing; either by accident, default or design.
Most often, those present will claim to represent the missing persons or articulate their needs.
This in itself is a problem because people view matters differently and everyone has a unique way to represent their interests and perspectives.
At Missing Third Project, just as our name indicates, we don’t speak on behalf of those missing at decision making spaces. Instead, we view them as the next generation of leaders who are yet to be heard and their opinion counted. We therefore challenge them to use their authentic voices and share their experiences in how the community should move forward.
We are using participatory design and co-creating the learning and sharing forums with members of the community. We have introduced tools including group work, personal journaling and presentation to the participants to inspire them to drive their own visions. This is as opposed to a teacher- learner approach where the participants will passively listen to the facilitators.
All our forums are held within the community where we all experience the environment, aspirations, needs and resources first hand.
Our current Next Generation Leadership program is running until June 2024, supported by the Funding for Social Change-UK and in collaboration with women and youth groups in Solian area, Baringo county, Kenya. The county’s Ministry of Agriculture is the local government partner for our program.
